About this job

Our company is a family-owned reefer carrier (since 1992) based out of Connecticut, looking for a small group of experienced OTR drivers to run Peterbilt 389/589 long-nose trucks on steady, repeat-customer lanes. The owners work in the business daily and know their drivers by name.

Pay

  • Average weekly pay of $1,800–$2,300
  • Average annual earnings of $85,000–$110,000, depending on home time and weekend running
  • $1,250 sign-on bonus
  • Linehaul percentage pay: 26% to start, 27% after 6 months, 28% after 2 years
  • 26% currently works out to roughly $0.73–$0.90 per all miles
  • $1,050 guaranteed minimum weekly pay, even on home weeks
  • Monthly bonus for following company protocols and on-time delivery
  • Paid weekly, with direct deposit; paperwork turned in by Monday midnight is paid out Friday, and you can scan it in through the company's mobile app

Home time

  • Typical pattern is about 17 days out followed by 4 full days home, often home Wednesday and back out Monday
  • Most driving is done on recap hours, averaging roughly 8 hours and 400 miles a day, with extra weekend miles available if you want them

What you'll haul

  • Reefer freight, mostly direct from repeat customers rather than broker loads (about 90% direct customer freight)
  • Much of it is one pickup, one drop, no touch
  • You'll run about 50 regular lanes, many with customers who've worked with the company for over 20 years
  • Operations are mainly east of the Mississippi — PA, OH, MI, IL, IN, NY, CT, MD, KY, NC, SC, GA, WI and nearby states — with occasional longer runs to Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas
  • About 70% of freight qualifies for detention pay at $80/hour after the first hour past the scheduled pickup or delivery time

Equipment

  • Custom Peterbilt 389 and new Peterbilt 589 long-nose trucks, governed at 75 MPH
  • Drivers get input on truck color when a new one is ordered, and trucks are assigned based on fit and availability
  • Equipped with PrePass, E-ZPass and Motive E-Logs

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL from your state of residence
  • At least 21 years old
  • Minimum 2 years of verifiable Class A OTR tractor-trailer experience in the last 5 years
  • Clean driving and safety record
  • Comfortable handling temperature-controlled freight and communicating with dispatch
  • Must pass a DOT drug test before starting
  • No drug- or alcohol-related DUI/DWI in the last 5 years

Benefits

  • Health insurance eligible after 90 days
  • Dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match up to 3%
  • One week of paid vacation after a year
  • Rider program available for $25/month
  • Relocation assistance

The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
