About this job
Our company is a small, owner-run carrier near Charlotte, NC, running dedicated Amazon Relay contract lanes. You'd be solo in your own assigned truck, working set contract terms with drop-and-hook freight and no load board scrambling.
Pay
You earn a share of gross revenue, including fuel surcharge and accessorial charges like detention, layover and TONU, paid out weekly by direct deposit. The base share is 22%, rising to 25% for any week your loads run without a defect. Most contract weeks land between $1,400 and $1,700. If you're available and the freight isn't there, you're still guaranteed at least $1,000 for that week.
Schedule
This is OTR work done in contract blocks of 4 to 10 weeks at one Amazon domicile at a time, with home time in between terms. Expect a mix of 13-hour and 37-hour solo blocks, including nights and weekends.
What you'll haul
You'll run Amazon Relay contract blocks out of your assigned domicile for the length of each term. When a term wraps up, you reposition to the next domicile on a paid load-board tour. Before committing to a new term, you and the company review the available Relay contracts together and choose the next domicile based on what it pays, since your earnings are tied to the contract's payout.
You'll be assigned a late-model sleeper tractor with automatic transmission, a full-size raised-roof sleeper and a working APU. The truck is covered by an extended protection plan, so mechanical issues shouldn't hit your wallet.
Day to day, you'll use the Relay driver app to check in, swap trailers, log trip updates and screenshot anything that looks off. You'll also handle pre- and post-trip inspections, report any defects the same day, and keep your ELD logs clean. Flagging delays or facility problems early helps the company dispute them properly.
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL with 2+ years of verifiable OTR tractor-trailer experience within the last 3 years
- At least 23 years old
- No more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years, no preventable DOT-recordable accidents in the past 3 years, and no DUI or reckless driving in the past 5 years
- Clean FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse record, valid DOT medical card, and able to pass a pre-employment drug test
- Willing to be out on the road for 4 to 10 week stretches and live in the truck during that time
- A smartphone with data service to run the Relay app
- Amazon Relay experience, automatic transmission experience and drop-and-hook background are helpful but not mandatory
Benefits
- Pay tied to gross revenue (including fuel surcharge and accessorials), with full visibility into the rate on every load through the Relay app
- A bonus structure you control: your share jumps from 22% to 25% in any week you run defect-free — on-time at every stop, no rejected loads, no tracking gaps. Amazon-caused issues that get reversed on dispute don't count against you
- A $1,000 weekly minimum when freight is short but you're ready to work
- Input on which contract destinations you run next, based on payout
- Predictable contract miles rather than load-board guesswork
- A well-kept truck equipped with an APU so you're not idling just to sleep
- Direct communication with the owner — no dispatcher or fleet manager in between
- Weekly direct deposit pay, no pay cards or fees
- Company-provided fuel card, plus tolls, scales and permits covered
The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
