CDL-A Local Grocery Delivery Driver — Home Daily, West Haven CT

Run a local grocery delivery route out of West Haven, CT and sleep in your own bed every night. You'll shuttle fresh and frozen freight from Westfield, MA into NYC boroughs, Long Island and New Jersey, working early mornings in an automatic day cab pulling a reefer trailer.

Pay

• Weekly wage range of $1,500.00-$1,650.00

• NYC borough stops pay $30-$31.50 each

• Stops outside NYC pay $23-$24.50 each

• Detention pay of $15/hour after the first hour

Home time

You're home every day. Shifts begin and end at the West Haven yard, so you'll need your own reliable way to get there and back - the truck stays at the yard and can't go home with you.

Schedule

Expect to clock in between 12:00 AM and 1:30 AM, head to the Westfield facility for a pickup window around 2:00-4:00 AM, then run deliveries. Days typically run 10 to 14 hours. Most routes involve one long load, with a shorter second load some days when time allows.

What you'll haul

You'll pick up frozen and fresh grocery freight at the Westfield, MA facility and deliver it to supermarkets and distribution centers across the NYC boroughs, Long Island and New Jersey, averaging roughly 20-25 stops a week. Most loads are 1-3 pallets per stop, moved with an electric pallet jack, manual pallet jack or liftgate - occasional freight needs to be hand-unloaded piece by piece. NYC stops are mostly curbside, New Jersey stops are mostly at the dock, and Long Island can be either. You may occasionally haul a backhaul or return load back to the distribution center, and sometimes cover other local accounts.

Equipment

You'll drive an automatic day cab pulling 46', 48', 51' or 53' reefer trailers. Trucks are slip-seated and shared with the driver on the opposite shift - the company tries to keep you in the same truck but can't guarantee it.

Requirements

• Valid CDL-A

• Live within about 40 miles of West Haven, CT

• Own reliable transportation to and from the yard each day

• Able to handle early starts (roughly 12:00 AM-1:30 AM) and 10-14 hour shifts

• Comfortable making frequent grocery stops, unloading freight, and using pallet jacks and liftgates

• Willing to slip seat in a truck that can't be taken home

• Good customer service and communication skills

• 3+ months of NYC borough delivery experience preferred
