About this job
Our company is hiring a local flatbed driver based out of Kernersville, NC to run dedicated routes within 300 miles of Greensboro. You'll work with the same customers and familiar freight, so your schedule and paycheck stay predictable.
Pay
- Starting rate of $0.50 per mile
- Typical earnings run around $1,250 weekly, or about $65,000 a year, based on roughly 1,500 miles weekly
- Stop pay of $15 per stop, with drivers averaging about 30 stops a week
- Extra pay for detention, breakdowns, and tarping done in bad weather ($10 added per stop)
- Pay goes up annually on your work anniversary
Home time
- You're back home every night
- Runs Monday through Friday with weekends off
- Shifts typically last 10-12 hours, starting between 2:00 and 6:30 a.m. and wrapping up between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.
- Next-day load info comes through around 5:00 p.m., with freight staged by 2:00 a.m.
What you'll haul
- 53-foot flatbed, curtainside, or conestoga trailers, already loaded when your shift starts
- Building supplies like drywall and lumber heading to retail and non-retail customers
- No touch freight besides live unloading at delivery
- Straps are supplied for securing loads; tarping needed only when rain threatens the product
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL
- At least 6-11 months of tractor-trailer experience in the last 2 years, or a full year within the last 5
- Minimum age 21
- Live within 75 miles of the terminal
- Clean driving history: no DUI/DWI or reckless driving in the past 5 years, no license suspensions for moving violations in that time, fewer than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years, and no preventable DOT-recordable crashes in the last 3 years
- Able to lift up to 80 lbs and handle physical tasks like securing loads, climbing on the trailer, and applying tarps
- Must buy your own steel-toe shoes; hard hats and vests are provided
