About this job
Our company is a civil construction company looking for a CDL-A dump truck driver to haul materials like crushed rock, sand and gravel to active job sites out of Charlotte, NC 28217. Expect out-of-town work, sometimes up to three weeks away from home at a stretch.
Pay
- $32.72 to $37.15 per hour.
Schedule
- Typically 45 to 55 hours a week.
- Most weeks run five 10-hour days, though the project will dictate your actual hours.
- Evening and weekend work may be needed, and travel out of town or out of state should be expected depending on the job.
What you'll haul
- You'll load, transport and dump construction materials such as crushed rock, sand and gravel, keeping loads within weight limits.
- You'll maneuver the truck around active construction sites, including backing up with or without a spotter, and operate the controls to tilt, raise and lower the dump bed.
- You may also run a loader, forklift or skid-steer to load or unload your truck, and you'll secure equipment like dozers, skid-steers, excavators or farm tractors on a tag trailer when needed.
- Daily duties include pre- and post-trip inspections with fluid checks, keeping the truck clean, and completing load, mileage, fuel and other logs for DOT compliance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Class A CDL at minimum.
- Clean driving record.
- Demonstrated experience running a standard dump truck.
- Solid understanding of job site safety, vehicle upkeep and road safety rules.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test, plus random testing if selected.
- Attendance at required safety meetings and willingness to engage with the crew and safety staff on site.
- Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel for extended periods as projects require.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, along with 30-Hour OSHA and First Aid/CPR certification before starting.
- The work happens outdoors on active sites, so you should be ready for dust, noise, heat, cold and rain, plus physical tasks like repeated bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, and pushing or pulling materials and tools. Good vision (seeing clearly at 30 feet or more), hearing and color recognition are needed, and you'll need to wear required safety gear such as a hard hat, glasses, ear plugs, vest and safety boots (company-provided except for boots).
Our company is employee-owned and has been recognized for its safety record, including being named ABC's 2024 Contractor of the Year. The company hires without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, citizenship, national origin, disability, veteran status or genetic information.
