About this job
Our company Company is looking for a Driver Trainee in Norton, OH to train toward a Class A CDL driving role delivering products to customer locations. You'll ride along with a Driver Trainer, learn the job, and get exposure to warehouse operations along the way.
Pay
- $22.50 per hour while you're in training.
- Once trained, drivers earn $75,000-$100,000 per year.
What you'll do
- Ride with a Driver Trainer and learn commercial driving skills: starting the engine properly, approaching intersections, turning, backing, parking and maneuvering on the road and at customer sites.
- Hook up and secure trailers to the tractor.
- Check tractor-trailer equipment before and after trips and file DOT inspection reports.
- Use a Driver Delivery Handheld to log delivery receipts, product temperatures and any exceptions.
- Keep driver logs (manual or PeopleNet) per DOT rules.
- Help unload trailers and deliver product at customer locations.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Must complete training and earn a Class A CDL within 6 months.
- Must meet eligibility rules under our company's internal Transfer and Promotion Policy.
- Able to select, load, unload and deliver any products our company customers order.
- Able to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, bend, squat and stoop as the job requires.
- Able to read labels, instructions and bills of lading, and do basic math to check product quantities.
- Comfortable communicating with customers, managers and teammates.
- Able to safely operate a tractor-trailer, a 2-wheeled dolly, a ramp and onboard PeopleNet devices.
- Must read, write and understand English well enough to follow safety protocols and job instructions.
- Background check and drug screening required, per applicable law.
