About this job
Our company is hiring a Driver to support its Linthicum, Maryland operations, picking up and delivering materials safely and on time. This is a 1st shift, IUE union-represented position working with company vehicles including forklifts and over-the-road trucks.
What you'll do
- Pick up materials and deliver them to their destination, verifying counts and noting any damage or discrepancies
- Load and unload trucks, securing cargo with blocking, bracing and strapping
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other material handling equipment
- Transport hazardous materials when HAZMAT certified, checking for proper placards and compatibility
- Keep manual driver logs covering mileage, stop times and any issues, plus vehicle maintenance records
- Coordinate routes and stops with dispatch and management
- Mentor less experienced drivers
Requirements
- Valid state driver's license with a current CDL-A endorsement
- Prior experience operating commercial vehicles, either a straight truck or tractor
- Ability to pass a structured interview showing you can do the job
- Eligibility to obtain and keep a US Secret security clearance and a HAZMAT endorsement
- High school diploma or equivalent
Nice to have
- Background in manufacturing, logistics or distribution
- Experience coordinating with dispatch, keeping manual logs and handling DOT compliance paperwork
- Experience with hazardous materials handling
