About this job

Our company needs a CDL-A driver to haul equipment, materials, and tools to active DDOT roadway and paving job sites across the Washington DC metro area. You'll keep crews stocked so paving and construction work stays on schedule within strict task-order windows.

What you'll haul

  • Multiple stops a day through busy DC traffic corridors
  • Concrete formwork, rebar, traffic control devices (attenuators, message boards), thermoplastic blocks, and glass beads
  • You may run a standard pickup, a medium-duty flatbed, or a full-size tractor with a 40-foot flatbed or lowboy trailer, depending on the day's needs and your license

What the job involves

  • Time deliveries closely with the Field Supervisor so lane-closure permits aren't disrupted
  • Check cargo against supplier tickets before leaving, and get signed tickets for every on-site drop-off
  • Secure loads with chains, binders, straps, and winch lines per FMCSA and DOT rules
  • Run daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and flag any mechanical issues right away
  • Check fluids and tire pressure, and keep the vehicle clean
  • Help the yard crew load and unload with a forklift between runs
  • Track tools, forms, and leftover materials coming back into inventory
  • Log deliveries, snap and upload photos from your phone or tablet, and keep driver logs current where required

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with a clean record
  • Class A CDL needed to run the 40-foot trailer; if you don't have it yet, you can be hired with a commitment to get it within 90 days
  • No more than 2 minor violations on your MVR in the past 3 years
  • 2+ years of commercial driving experience preferred
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check
  • Comfortable navigating DC metro roads and using a smartphone/tablet for GPS, communication, and photos
  • Know how to secure loads with straps, chains, and binders
  • Able to lift 50-75 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds occasionally with help
  • Good communication and reliable time management

Nice to have: bilingual English/Spanish, forklift certification, tanker or hazmat endorsement (for pavement-marking chemicals/solvents), masonry or construction knowledge, OSHA 10-hour certification.

Working conditions

Expect 4-6 hours of driving per day around the DC metro area, plus physical work loading and unloading trucks - bending, climbing, reaching, and handling heavy tie-down straps and chain binders. You'll be outdoors in all weather on active construction sites, so hard hat, safety vest, and steel-toe boots are required PPE.

Employment details

Full-time, non-exempt (overtime eligible). You'll report to the Field Supervisor day-to-day, with performance reviewed by the Senior Superintendent. Based in Washington, DC, under Operations/Logistics and Yard Support.

The hiring carrier's name is shared with you once you apply through the DriverRoll app, where you can message them directly.
