About this job
Our company in Independence, KY needs a CDL-A city driver to move freight between service centers and customers, handling both the driving and some customer-facing work along the way.
Pay
- Starting rate of $31.26 per hour
What you'll do
- Drive tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/triples or straight trucks as needed
- Complete pre-trip and safety checks on your equipment
- Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies
- Load, unload and secure freight using forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, straps, rope and pallets
- Fix or recoup damaged freight when needed
- Keep required paperwork and reports accurate and up to date
- Follow hazmat rules and procedures
- Collect payment for freight charges when required
- Stay in touch with dispatch on delays, arrivals and equipment issues
- Talk with customers about pickup and delivery needs, and flag new business opportunities for the sales team
- Chain tires when conditions call for it
- Fill in on dock or road driving duties when the business needs it
Requirements
- Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of your offer; automatic transmission restriction is acceptable)
- At least 1 year of driving experience in the last 3 years, or completion of the our company Driver Development Course
- Clean enough MVR to meet hiring standards
- Must satisfy DOT requirements under FMCSA Part 391
- If running long combination vehicles (triples, Rocky Mountain Doubles, Turnpike Doubles) in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD or UT, you'll need to meet the LCV qualification standards for those states
- Basic math and calculator skills
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Able to lift and carry freight up to 100 pounds several times a week
- Able to sit for long stretches, and to bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of the truck
- Able to follow instructions, complete training, and work solo or as part of a team
Working conditions
- Driving in all weather and road types during your shift
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes and DOT-regulated hazardous materials
- Schedule and hours can shift based on business needs
