About this job
Our company in Columbia, SC is looking for a driver to operate off-road trucks on active earthwork sites, hauling heavy bulk materials with a truck rated for more than three tons.
What you'll haul
- Materials like soil, sand, gravel, crushed rock, coal and bituminous paving mixes, loaded and dumped on site
What you'll do
- Record load weights and other production details on tags or labels
- Fill out pickup receipts for each load
- Keep a driver log in line with state and federal rules, if required
- Stay in contact with your supervisor by phone or radio for delivery instructions
- Load and unload the truck as needed
- Check truck tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and water before runs
- Secure cargo in transit using blocks and tie-down ropes
Requirements
- Able to read road maps and follow safety practices while working in dusty or dirty conditions
- Comfortable following directions and meeting performance standards
- Good judgment of distance and slope based on clear, verifiable standards
- High school diploma preferred, plus one year of related experience
