Just got your CDL-A and want real-world experience? J.B. Hunt's Apprenticeship Program pairs you with a seasoned driver trainer in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, then moves you into a full-time role once you finish. Pay during training is $200 per day.

Pay

• Trainees earn $200 per day while learning the ropes.

• Once you're on your own, you're paid $18 per hour plus an activity-based bonus (your eligible activity pay minus your base hourly earnings for the week).

• Drivers in this role have averaged $82,500 a year in total earnings over the past six to twelve months.

• Holiday pay: $300 per day worked on a holiday.

• Activity bonus pay can include: $0.69-$0.77 per mile, $25 per hour for detention, $30 per completed stop, shuttle runs at $25 per round trip or $245 per day, a $200 weekly show-up bonus, $25 per hour for mechanical breakdowns or waiting on a power unit, $25 per hour for mandatory meetings, $20 per hour for safety training, $245-$270 per day for DCS outsource work, $100-$250 per load for JBI outsource work, and a $75 per day sixth-day incentive.

• Your actual annual pay depends on things like how many activities you complete, your training, paid breaks, endorsements, tenure, equipment type and how many days you work each week. Safety bonuses may also apply depending on performance.

Expect to be home often with this semi-local route.

What the job looks like

You'll have support from onsite management and go through paid orientation online. The role also involves regular contact with customers, the public at fuel and rest stops, and sometimes entering private homes to complete deliveries.
