Class 1 Long-Haul Truck Driver — Canada & USA Lanes

Our company in Dartmouth, NS is adding experienced tractor-trailer drivers to its fleet for cross-border and long-haul runs. You'll handle Canada-wide and US freight, including dangerous goods, with steady, reliable loads.

Pay

• $0.50-$0.54 per mile on Canada-wide runs, and $0.55-$0.60 per mile on US runs, depending on experience

• Annual pay works out to $80,000.00-$115,000.00 per year

What you'll haul

• Dry bulk, flatbed and tractor-trailer equipment

• Loads may include dangerous goods

• Routes cover long-haul, national, provincial/territorial and regional lanes, both within Canada and into the USA

• Some runs are driven as a two-person team or in convoy

What the job involves

• Mapping and adjusting routes with GPS or other navigation tools to cut down on fuel use and emissions

• Loading and unloading freight

• Checking your truck's tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other systems before, during and after each trip

• Logging cargo details, hours of service, mileage and fuel use

• Staying in touch with dispatch and relaying updates

• Handling customer questions or concerns professionally

Requirements

• Class 1 driver's licence with Air Brakes endorsement

• At least 1 year of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience

• Comfortable running long-haul and cross-border routes

• High school diploma

• Able to pass background checks, drug testing and other required screening

• Must be based in or near Halifax to complete a road test and in-person interview as part of hiring

• Comfortable with physically demanding work, heavy lifting, repetitive tasks and long periods of sitting

• Own steel-toed boots and gloves

• Strong communication skills, reliability, organization and a team-oriented attitude
