About this job
Our company needs a part-time driver to transport students to and from Washburn University Technical College campuses in Topeka. Depending on enrollment needs, you may drive a large passenger van, SUV, school bus, or wheelchair-accessible bus, and you'll work under the direction of the transportation director following district policies and safety rules.
What you'll do
- Run the Washburn Tech routes, leaving for morning drop-off around 7:15 a.m. and afternoon pick-up around 10:30 a.m.
- Get students safely to and from their campus each trip
- Fill in on the afternoon bus route when regular drivers are out or extra coverage is needed
- Drive activity trips occasionally, as long as it doesn't conflict with your Washburn Tech duties, while keeping students safe and supervised
- Help the transportation director with special projects and other assigned tasks
- Keep your vehicle clean, safe and in good condition, and report any maintenance or safety issues right away
Schedule
This is a part-time role; exact hours and days depend on building needs.
Requirements
- Kansas Class B CDL with P and S endorsements preferred; if you don't have a CDL yet, you must obtain one with the S and P endorsements within 6 months of starting
- Current or willingness to obtain American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification
- Current or willingness to complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course
- Must pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening, and participate in DOT random testing while employed
- Clean driving record with no serious violations
- Solid understanding of traffic laws, bus regulations, and the district's student transportation policies
- Comfortable working with students, parents, staff and administration, and able to keep good order on the vehicle
