About this job
U.S. Xpress is looking for solo CDL-A drivers based out of Jacksonville, FL for over-the-road routes across the lower 48 states, mostly east of I-35. Freight is 100% no-touch, and pay is based on your experience level with several bonus opportunities on top.
Pay
- Mileage pay scaled to your experience
- Top 20% of Jacksonville Terminal OTR drivers bring home $1,525+ a week on average (this reflects top earners, not a guaranteed figure)
- Detention pay: $12.50 per hour after the first two hours, or more if your state requires it
- Layover or breakdown pay: $100 per day, or more where law requires it
- Drive to Thrive Bonus: up to 3 cents per mile extra tied to safety, mileage and productivity, starting your first full month on the job (you need to still be an active OTR company driver when it pays out)
Sign-on bonus
- $5,000 total, paid as $2,500 at six months and $2,500 at the one-year mark
- You must be actively driving for the company on each payout date; bonus programs can change or end with notice, and employment is at-will
Home time
- Home time flexes around what works for you
- Most drivers run 12 days out and 2 days home to maximize pay
- You won't be forced into dispatch runs to New York City or its five boroughs
- Dispatch balances freight availability, safety and your earning potential
What you'll haul
- No-touch freight only
- Roughly 50-60% drop-and-hook, 40-50% live unload
- Average weekly miles run about 2,000, with the top 30% of drivers hitting 2,300-3,000+ miles
- Typical haul runs about 400 miles
- Actual miles and pay depend on your assignments and output
Equipment
- 2021 or newer Freightliner Cascadia and Kenworth tractors
Become a trainer
Experienced drivers can boost their pay by training new drivers:
- $250 guaranteed weekly pay while training
- An extra $0.05 per mile on anything over 1,875 miles in a week
- Up to $400 Safe Student Bonus for each student who upgrades
- Potential to add $20,000+ a year depending on how much you train
- To qualify: at least one year of OTR experience, minimum 30 days with the company, and a clean safety record
Benefits

- Paid vacation: one week after your first year, two weeks after three years, three weeks after seven years, and four weeks after 15 years
