About this job

Our company, a regional feed manufacturer, needs a Class A CDL driver to deliver bulk feed, bagged feed and supplements to livestock producers. You'll run heavy trucks and trailers along with bobtail feed trucks and pickups pulling trailers, with layovers possible up to five nights a week and time off on weekends.

What you'll haul

  • Bulk feed, bagged feed and feed supplements to customers, plus finished goods and raw materials moving between plants, retail locations and distribution centers
  • Deliveries often take you to farms, feed yards and other rural or unpaved sites with tight access
  • You'll place feed exactly where customers want it, as long as it can be done safely
  • Work may include running hydraulic systems, liftgates, pallet jacks, Moffetts and Conestogas, plus tarping and securing loads to DOT standards

Home time

Expect to be dispatched as needed with layovers possible up to five nights weekly; you'll be home on weekends.

What the job involves

  • Collecting payment for goods and delivery charges when required
  • Acting as the main point of contact between LNC and its customers, so a professional, courteous manner matters
  • Staying in touch with your supervisor by phone or radio for instructions and updates
  • Checking your vehicle for mechanical or safety problems and keeping up with preventive maintenance (tires, lights, brakes, fluids)
  • Keeping accurate logs for hours worked, rest periods, mileage, and pre/post-trip inspections per state and federal rules
  • Planning your routes to hit delivery windows and following all applicable size, weight, and parking/break regulations along with company policy
  • Reporting any defects, accidents or violations right away
  • Keeping your truck, trailer and equipment clean and sanitary
  • Showing up reliably and on time, which the company considers essential

Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL; 2+ years of tractor-trailer experience preferred
  • At least 21 years old
  • Able to read and speak English
  • Able to sleep in a sleeper berth for multi-day runs
  • Physically able to drive a commercial vehicle, climb ladders to unload feed and inspect bins, lift or move up to 50 lbs regularly, and move 2,000-lb feed pallets with a manual or electric pallet jack
  • Comfortable maneuvering trucks into tight loading and unloading spots
  • Familiar with electronic logging devices and GPS
  • Solid understanding of truck driving laws and regulations, and able to adapt to changing conditions like weather or traffic
  • Clean driving record: no serious violations in the last 3 years, no more than 3 moving violations in 3 years (or 2 in the last 12 months), and no more than 1 preventable accident involving injury, fatality or towing damage in the last 3 years
  • No convictions for a criminal offense involving a commercial vehicle
  • Must pass background and drug screening and provide references
  • Able to work weekends on a rotating, seasonal basis
