CDL-A Delivery Driver — Food Distribution Routes

SYGMA, part of Sysco, needs a CDL-A driver in Charlotte, NC to deliver food products to customers on assigned routes. You'll handle the full delivery process, from hauling product out of the warehouse to unloading it at customer locations.

What you'll do

• Drive a tractor-trailer from the warehouse to customer stops, keeping to your assigned route and delivery schedule

• Unload product by hand or hand cart, including down ramps, stairs or docks, in all kinds of weather, and place items where the customer wants them

• Scan deliveries and follow proper handling procedures for each account

• Pick up damaged goods or customer returns and bring them back to the SYGMA warehouse

• Complete required paperwork, including DOT logs, vehicle inspections, maintenance reports and delivery invoices

• Follow food safety standards, such as keeping proper trailer temperatures and checking product for damage before delivery

• Keep your tractor and trailer clean and help maintain sanitary conditions in the warehouse and yard

• Report any safety concerns, route issues or equipment problems to management

• Handle backhauls and line-haul pickups safely and on schedule

Schedule

This is generally an overnight position. Be ready to work weekends, holidays and overtime, with variable start times based on customer needs.

Requirements

• Valid Class A CDL, and you must be insurable to drive under the company's policy

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent; a tractor-trailer driving school certificate can substitute

• About 1 year of tractor-trailer driving experience is preferred

• Strong enough English skills to talk with customers, read road signs, respond to inspections and fill out required reports

• Comfortable driving a 3-axle tractor with a 45'-48' trailer, or a straight truck, along with using an onboard computer and a 2-wheel hand cart

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds by hand and push or pull as much as 350 pounds on a hand cart, plus climb in and out of the cab and trailer, bend, twist and reach as needed

• Willing to work in varying weather, confined spaces, and around moving equipment
